Rose Festival Fleet Week

USACU Hosts a Booth, June 5th – 7th

Isn’t it the best time of year in Portland, OR? Our backyard here in downtown is transformed with music, food, and all sorts of events during The Rose Festival.

This year we are jumping aboard and hosting a booth in honor of Fleet Week. We’ll be camped out near the entrance to the ship tours from 10am – 4pm Friday, June 5th – Sunday, June 7th just north of the Burnside Bridge near NW Couch. Stop by our booth for a photo op, free gifts, and just to say “hi.” Then take a tour on one or more of the many ships that will be docked along the waterfront.

Learn more about Fleet Week and we hope to see you there!

“Loyal to this outfit”

A story from our member, Phil

It’s always a happy day at USAgencies when we get feedback like this. We just had to share this story from Phil, a member who is “loyal to this outfit”…

Way back when Phil opened his membership he allocated some of his VA funds here into a checking account….. and then ignored it, for years. After a handsome sum ($10K+) accumulated, a USACU employee reached out to him to offer some other solutions for earning a better rate. We offered a CD and set it all up for him.

This above and beyond effort, although a simple action that we do all the time for our members, really stuck with Phil. He called in just this week to tell us that he appreciates all we do for him.

“You guys manage the money; I just manage things so they don’t bounce,” he said.

Phil explained that we should be proud of the staff working here. “They’ve been kind and patient with me over the years. It’s with their voice and actions that they make me loyal to this outfit,” and he’s grateful.

Phil, you probably won’t ever read this, as you proclaim to be “off the grid,” but we sure appreciate YOU, your kind words, and your loyalty to this outfit at USAgencies. We’re proud to call you our member, sir.

How to Find the Right Car for You

Shopping for a new car?

Shopping for a new car? With so many options, the choice may seem overwhelming. Here are a couple of questions that can guide you to just the right car for your needs and lifestyle.

Is it affordable?

No matter how much you love a particular car, if paying for it is going to leave you short on cash each month, then you haven’t found your perfect match. Generally, what you shell out for transportation — including car payment, insurance and gas — shouldn’t come to more than 20% of your take-home pay each month after you’ve paid your other bills.

That said, you need to weigh your existing expenses before deciding how much is manageable. Financial institutions such as US Agencies Credit Union can pre-approve you for an auto loan and may reward you for setting up e-statements and automatic payments, for choosing a fuel-efficient model or even just for making your payments on time consistently. You’ll also have the advantage of knowing exactly what you can afford before you shop.

What are your lifestyle considerations?

Once you’ve set your budget, narrow the possibilities by examining your needs:

  • Will you be traveling in winter conditions and benefit from all-wheel drive?
  • Do you commute long distances, making fuel efficiency a priority?
  • Do you often drive passengers and need enough seating for everyone? Would having four doors make life easier? What about room for child seats?
  • How much cargo do you carry, and which vehicle types have enough room for your stuff?
  • Do you love to work on engines, or do you need something with top reliability ratings?

Credit unions like USAgencies often provide other helpful auto services like GAP and MRC coverage, and debt protection. Some credit unions also partner with organizations that provide car-shopping help.

Choosing a car can be a hassle, but knowing the right questions to ask will put you in the driver’s seat on the way to a new ride.
